“Today the world is practicing social distancing, but it is normal for the queer people. ” These are the words of a queer person who was part of the Pride Parade organised by a DU college. There is no exaggeration to say that life has always been difficult for the people of LGBTQ+ Community. Because of lack of inclusivity by the straight people. But, all these problems eased a little when finally the Section 377 was scrapped away in 2018.
There have always been people who have come forward for the support of the queer people. This has boosted the confidence of people belonging to lgbtq+ community to stand for their rights. Pride Parade is a way that helps all the queer and non queer people to stand for the identity and inclusivity of queer people. These Pride parades were started in 2008 in Delhi. When a certain number of people came upon the roads of Delhi to speak about their gender identity. Since then, Pride parades happen in Delhi in the month of November.
College students of Delhi University were also the ones who came forward to show their dignity and respect towards the people of LGBTQ community. These pride parades were started by the social groups and societies of DU colleges in 2016. Since then, every year students of various colleges like Hansraj College, St. Stephens College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, etc. organise the Pride Parades inside and outside their colleges to respect the gender identity of their queer friends and also assure them that they would be included no matter what!
