The complexity of lives in today’s era has made Multitasking a very common phenomenon. With the fast moving lives today, each one of us has our brain working in all the directions to cope up with the fast paced lifestyle. The important question that arises here is that is multitasking making us more efficient or is the quality of our work degrading thereby?
It is technically proven that when we do only one work at a given point of time, we are able to concentrate over it more fully and the work done turns out to be extremely good. Our concentration gets diverged when we try doing a lot of tasks at the same time or get involved into the so called Multi-tasking. This term might sound trendy but the results of this are not appreciable at all.
” If you try controlling everything, you end up controlling nothing” is the ideology that lies behind the degraded and poor work of ours when we multitask. Our speed of doing the work also slows down. It happens because our attention span is very limited. Generally its only upto 8 minutes in an individual. Our attention span gets even shorter when we do multi tasking and end up losing our focus.
It wouldn’t be accurate to say that multi tasking should be completely avoided it would turn out to be more difficult. No one of us would be happy being called a tortoise at work. The most essential thing is to work faster. If we increase the speed of doing one task, we would be able to complete all of them in time and may be even before the deadline. Speeding up requires practice and focus which cannot in any case be achieved by running our mind in every direction and focusing on the tasks left to be done instead of the ones actually completed.
