Hidden Gems: Women’s Colleges in Delhi University

Going to women’s college made a big difference. It gave me the sense women could run things…

Want to go in a girls college? Say a BIG Yes! Because No more daily struggle of putting together an outfit, being judged for those PJs and  slippers. In conversation with a student of Indraprastha College for Women, ”Is dating one aspect where co-ed girls might socre over you?” She replied, “ Don’t have we have DU Fests & North campus for that matter. We have tinder also. LOL”

Women’s colleges have their own beauty & charm. You get abundant opportunities to explore and grow. In an All Women’s college, girls do it all from making rangolis to shifting heavy desks and organizing the amazing annual fests… The fests really say it all ! Since women’s colleges are usually presumed to be less popular & boring, we bring to you some of the most famous women’s colleges. They are peppy and full of fun & frolic, opposed to the usual presumption.

Delhi University which has more  than 22,000  students with a ratio of female to male as  49:51, currently has 22 Women’s colleges affiliated to it offering programs across streams, including Humanities, Engineering, Medical, and Commerce among others.

As you all are aware that Delhi University is soon going to announce its First cut off on 19th June 2018, DU Times is here to brief you about some of the popular Women’s Colleges in Delhi university. Here we go !

1. Indraprastha College For Women“IP University nahi hai ye”

Only college in DU to offer BMMMC degree(Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication) and adjacent to Civil Lines,takes less than 5 minutes to reach the college. No more waiting for rickshaw-wala bhaiyas! Famous for its bun-tikki and banta just outside the main gate, it’s a heaven for food lovers. That banta in scorching heat, just wow.There is a big swimming pool also to drive away your Monday blues. Not to forget, the college is home to so many beautiful peacocks (enough reason come here).Beautiful buiding with British architecture vibes. The biggest concern of IP girls– “Hum IP University se nahi hai, IP College se  hain”

Best known for its annual fest Shruti, this year the fest had witnessed performance of  the International band- The Indian Ocean, and Rooh:The Fusion Project.

2. Miranda House“Queen of North Campus”

With around 4 canteens in a single campus, Miranda House is known for the beauty with brains and for its poised and confident cats.To all the food junkies, it will be an amazing  treat to your taste buds.They have sumptuous samosa-chutney, chhole- bhature and chilli potatoes! Which one you would prefer, ma’am ? The college hostel’s long corridor has been a part of Akshay Kumar starrer, Special 26, where it was transformed into CBI headquarters.Mirandians just steal the thunder!

3. Gargi College “we gave popular stars to Bollywood”

Campus visits by KPMG and Delmoitte ! What else do you need? No Placement worries.Gargi peeps, Can you relate to the Nescafe courts, your favourite spot for all the hot discussions & debates. This college is also very famous for its ‘Tehelka sandwich.’  Girls, you gotta try this thing! We’re jealous because Gargi has the best neighbours such as Keventers & Diggin

Alumni– Huma Qureshi, Urvshi Rautela, Sonal Chauhan among others.

4. Lady Shri Ram College – “Elsa forever”


Tarang, one of the most popular fests’ of DU is organized by Elsas. For those of you who don’t know who are Elsas. So, the LSR girls call themselves “Elsas” If you don’t have required attendace then, haha … No jugaads are applicable here ! You hav to attend the classes regularly. Elsas boast about the common room with low lying couches which feels like heaven during some rare break hours.Elsas, you have got a lush garden also with those colorful & fragrant flowers. This beautiful red building of LSR just fascinates everyone!

Alumni– Aung San Suu Kyi, Maneka Gandhi, Nidhi Razdan among others.

5. Daulat Ram College – “sadbhavna bhavan”


For those of you thinking what sadbhavana bhavan is, It’s the Auditorium. LOL!! Jokes apart, It is the  biggest auditorium in Delhi University. DRC is also famous for its dance society “Zenith.” The most popular men in this college are Nescafe wale bhaiya and Titu uncle. Bhaiya, one cappuccino please! Titu uncle with his DSLR is the most popular man in the college. Afterall, all girls love getting clicked.

Alumni– Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Ms. Deepti Bhalla and Ms. Anita Bhatnagar among others.
