Teachers demanding absorption of ad hoc temporary teachers in Delhi University have begun a hunger strike outside Arts Faculty.
Almost 5000 adhoc teachers are on a hunger strike from Friday demanding permanency to have same benefits as given to the permanent ones.
“We are sitting outside the Faculty of Arts and it is very cold. It is very difficult, but we are supporting each other. We demand the absorption of adhoc and temporary teachers in DU. These teachers have been working for years without any leave and increment.” said Aditya Narayan Misra, president of Academics for Action and Development.
There are 4600 adhoc teachers in the university. They all have required qualifications prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The issue is also raised by the congress minister Rahul Gandhi. In Rajasthan they have appointed a committee. In Madhya Pradesh they are in process. We are demanding the same for Delhi University, added Misra.
