Domestic Violence during the lockdown

The increased number of cases of domestic violence during the lockdown made me realise how much attention we all need to give to such incidents and topics. We as students must know that there is a world beyond our books and to make change we need to do something more than just reading and ignoring the day to day struggles of someone who is not as privileged as we are.

Indian women filed more  complaints than recorded in a similar period in the last 10 years. But what is more shocking is that 86% women does not register their cases. According to BBC’s news a survivor said that lockdown has changed everything for her and she lives in a constant state of fear.

What needs to change is the idea of people targeting a women who has decided to separate herself from the abusive trauma she was facing. We need to normalise a women living on her own terms, we need to make sure that we support such courageous women so that they are able to set an example for others who are in pressure.

WE ALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND SEEKING HELP IS NOT A FROM OF WEAKNESS.
