DELHI COLLEGE AWARDS : A SUCCESSFUL INITIATIVE

As we all know that in this competitive world where majority of the students stay constricted by the curriculum, somewhere their passion about Extra-Curricular Activities takes a back seat. As it is said that ‘ ART NEEDS ADVOCATES AND TALENT NEEDS PLATFORM’ and keeping this in mind, “THE EDUCATION TREE”, a youth led organisation took the initiative to recognize the hidden or known talents of such students and reward them, and the initiative was known as “DELHI COLLEGE AWARDS” which was the first of its kind in the city.

Delhi College Awards was an opportunity for various societies to step out of their respective closed circuits and show the city what they are actually capable of.

It was an online competition, the entries were accepted under different categories like The Best Debating Society, Best Dance Society, etc. and the entries were uploaded on the Facebook page of DCA so as to make out which society is the most popular and to evaluate the points. This was done with the help of Facebook likes on the particular entry during the stipulated time. This very much new concept proved to be a successful one when more than 400 societies from colleges all over Delhi participated in more than 15 categories. After a month long voting and competitions the winners were decided.

The winners were announced in a get-together party of all the participants which was held at The Club Road Cafe, Punjabi Bagh on 6th April and was called “THE DCA AFTER PARTY”.  It was a good attempt to bring people from all the colleges together and we got the opportunity to communicate with new people.

Some of the results were pretty obvious like Kirori Mal College winning the Best Commerce Society and Best Enactus Awards but some results were even shocking like Keshav Mahavidhyalaya winning in the categories of Best Literary Society and Best Art Society and even securing a runners up position in the category of Best Photography Society as its societies are not that popular but they proved it that they are no less. The other colleges who bagged the awards in some category or the other  were, SGND Khalsa College that won in the category of Best Photography Society, PGDAV College (Eve) won the Best Theatre Society Award, Institute of Home Economics emerged as runners up in the categories of Best Music Society and Best Fashion Society. The best Music Society Award was bagged by Maitreyi College who were also the runners up for Best Theatre Society, The Dance Society of Shaheed Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce was decided as the Best Dance Society while the runners up in the same category was Shri Aurobindo College, Jesus and Mary College was awarded the runners up in Best Art Society. While Bharti College , Mata Sundari College, Zakir Hussain College, Northern India Engineering College and Bhartiya Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering  were awarded Best Fashion Society, Best Placement Society, Best Environment Society, Best E-Cell Society and Best NSS Society respectively.

We even got to know that there are many more societies that exist but people are unaware of them. There is a ‘ Bhangra Society’ in SGND Khalsa College that has been formed by 4 students and is doing great work and many students from other colleges are planning to start such new and innovative kind of societies. So I want you all to join some society of your college and make the most of it and make your college proud by winning more and more awards.
