Daulat Ram College

Daulat Ram College (DRC) is a prestigious and premier educational institution for women located in the North Campus, University of Delhi.

It was founded by an educationist Late. Daulat Ram Gupta in 1960. It originally started as “Parmila College”but was later renamed as Daulat Ram College. The college has its own distinct culture and traditions. It has a track record of distinction in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. It is one of the top 10 colleges of University of Delhi.
The college has 19 departments which offer various courses namely-
Under Graduate Courses:B.A. (Hons) courses in English, Economics, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political science, Philosophy, Psychology, History, and Music. It also offers B.A. (pass) course. Its B.Sc. (Hons) courses include Biochemistry, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. The under graduate courses of Daulat Ram College also include B.Com (H), B.Com(P).
Post Graduate Courses: At the Masters level Daulat ram College allows students to take admission in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Psychology and Vocal and Instrumental Music.

Also the college has a very active placement cell. The placement cell also co-ordinates with the central placement cell of the University for Placements.The teaching staff of the institution is undoubtedly remarkable. Young teachers with a modern outlook and senior teachers with years of teaching experience provide the right kind of balance that every education system needs today.

When it comes to infrastructure the college has a separate block of tutorial rooms, a modern seminar hall and new class rooms and science laboratories for Physics, N.H.E. and Biochemistry were added with time. Computer laboratories with internet facilities for staff and students are now available. There are well equipped Wi-Fi enabled laboratories and lecture theatres/class rooms with LCD projectors in the College. The college has a well equipped fully air-conditioned library with over 80,000 titles and subscription to many journals with a computerized data base and access. The college has acquired ‘The Star College’ status from the Government of India and has acquired equipments and undergone training in curriculum updates. The Department of Physical Education offers facilities for gymnastics, table tennis, athletics and other games. The college was selected as a training venue for Rugby for the Commonwealth games, 2010. The college has set up a Gymnasium with modern facilities.
Also  the college student’s hostel with intake capacity of nearly 200 students is one of the best maintained in the University of Delhi and strives to provide not only a home away from home but also the much needed input for all round development of the students. The hostel has been recently renovated during the Commonwealth Games. The college boasts of a modern state-of-the-art auditorium named Sadhbhavana Bhawan. It has a sitting capacity of about 1300 and has one of the largest stages in Delhi. The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee year in 2010-2011.

Every year the college unveils a dramatic and artistic face of the college thorough its annual festival– MANJARI. The fest has witnessed many known artistes from bollywood and other realms of entertainment. The latest star performers being – Benny Dyal, Bombay rockers, Shibani Kashyap, Badshah.
To provide an opportunity to old students to connect to their alma mater, the college has an active Alumni Association. Some eminent alumni of the college include Actor Uttara Baokar, judgeKamini Lau, marathon champion Asha Agarwal.

Co-curricular activities like Departmental Clubs and Societies, Subject Associations, the Women Development Centre, Eco-Club, N.S.S. and N.C.C. are available for the overall development of our students. The college has an impressive number of registered cultural societies. Among these , the most active cultural societies are– the dance society (Zenith) ,the fashion society (Debonair), the dramatics society(memesis), the debating society and a singing society(both western and Indian). These societies have consistently won accolades for the college in innumerable competitions, within and outside campus.
When it comes to hangout options the college offers numerous hangout spots, the first thing that calls for special notice is the open art theater – commonly known as the Rangshala. Rangshala remains to be a cozy hangout spot especially in the winter months due to the bountiful sunlight that shines above its sprawling staircases. The Nescafe can’t be left behind when talking about casual meet ups with a spoonful of slurping Maggi and a chilled tumbler of lemon-ice tea. The canteen at one hand offers a mouth watering menu on the other hand it is also a good chit-chat point.
The vibrant mix of co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the college both at the intra-college and inter college levels adds to the strong character of the college as a multidimensional institution.
