Set amidst the heart of South Delhi in the bustling area of Lajpat Nagar IV, Lady Shri Ram College for Women is one of the finest institutions of the country, offering major disciplines in Social Sciences, Humanities and Commerce with professional courses like Elementary Education and Journalism. Lady Shri Ram College for Women was established in 1956 in New Delhi by the Late Sir Shri Ram, in memory of his wife and its first stone was laid down in Daryaganj, Central Delhi. Today the college functions under the inspiring Chairmanship of Dr. Arun Bharat Ram. The college envisages building a space for the aspiring female talents in the country.
LSR is known for its lush green lawns and an ambience that is said to have the “Magic of LSR”. It is a Feminist space that encourages its students to stand out in the crowd. The campus offers an atmosphere with positive vibes and enthusiasm which lights up the demeanor of everyone on campus. It also has beautifully built gazebos, sitting lawns, benches all around, Nescafe´ booth, Café area, Terrace area and new building sanctuary for hanging around with friends or grabbing some time alone in peace. During winters these places become the spots for grabbing sunlight. The lavishly equipped Student’s Common room offers the space to relax and lay down in the breaks between classes.
LSR sets a benchmark for discipline and decorum, apart from this,the academic inclination of the students and teachers here is commendable. The faculty here believes in incorporating a social and moral responsibility among the students. Along with academic excellence the college also believes in holistic development. There are around 21 societies operating in the campus giving an opportunity to all kinds of talent. Ranging from Dramatics to Public speaking, Indian Music/Dance to Western Music/Dance, Quizzing to Fine arts, film & photography to College magazine, including Enactus, NSS/NCC/NSO, Dhyaana-for meditation, academic forum and alumnae cell, the societies of LSR are independent branches of the institution blossoming with vigor and exuberance. The college auditorium is an invigorating space where occasional programs take place.
The major attraction in the Campus is the delightfully built Café (mind you, not Canteen). The sumptuous menu board has a variety of cuisine to offer, ranging from south Indian to north Indian and various other delicacies like cheese macaroni, pizza, chocolate tarts, etc. The sitting area is meticulously designed in order to avoid chaos and frenzy and has beautifully done walls. On the back side of the café is an open eating space too.
Other facilities on campus include a well stocked bookstore/stationery shop and a mobile recharge/photocopying shop to fulfill the basic needs of every student. There is a Nescafe’ booth adjacent to them which offers plush beverages all hot and cold and some delightful bakery items.
The college library is a 3 floor building with a rich reserve of books and journals for all departments and a general section. There is an ATM in the front corridor of the college, for the facility of the students.
There is a home away from home, The Residence Hall which has around 100 seats for students who come from places outside Delhi.
Throughout the year, LSR keeps buzzing with talks, competitions and fests. It doesn’t let the eyes fall off it. The major attractions are the Annual Cultural Fest- Tarang and the NSS Diwali Mela. Both these events take place on a Grand Scale with an enormous footfall. People from all around the city and country participate in the 3 day long extravaganza- Tarang and the one day long Diwai mela.
The college has produced exceptionally well alumnae in the past years that have created a niche in the world for themselves. The teacher-student and the junior-senior relationships here are very dynamic and harmonious. The experience of studying in LSR shall be the finest experience of one’s life.
