The University of Delhi plans to teach Drama-theatre on the lines of the National School of Drama. Delhi University intends to renovate the music and fine arts department of the University following the needs of the market. As a makeover, the Music and fine arts department prepares to add drama and theatre studies to the academics. Painting and Sculpture arts are likely to find their way to academics as well.
Along with this, a makeover of the Persian department is also being discussed. DU’s acting Vice-Chancellor, PC Joshi said that there is a plan for a makeover of two departments, the Persian Department and Music and Fine Arts Department. Under this scheme, preparations have been started to increase the scope of the Persian department. Through this, the students will focus on teaching the culture, language of countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will assist in this.
Joshi added, “At the same time, we plan to do a makeover of music and fine arts in the future as well. We want to expand the scope of this department. There are plans to add drama, theatre, sculpture, painting as well. NSD(National School of Drama) is a reputed institute. There is no such education, but there is an effort to make the students proficient in drama and theatre.”
These departments are very old and they have some shortages in them. These additions will expand their scope and future. The department currently offers programs in BA Honors Music, MA Music, MPhil Music, PhD program. On the other hand, Sangeet Shiromani Diploma Course, Two Year Diploma (Harmonium) and Short Term Certificate Courses are taught under the Diploma Program.
