The Government’s decision on CUCET(Central Universities Common Entrance Test) for Undergraduate admission has been awaited for while. DU’s senior official PC Joshi said that the final decision on CUCET will be shared by the government within a week to 10 days. Although the registration may start by mid-July, other intricacies like cut-offs, normalization of Class 12 marks, etc will be discussed after board result for fool-proof uniform admission procedure. Joshi also rose his concern regarding the non-uniformity in the marking schemes by different boards.
DU acting Vice-Chancellor, PC Joshi said, “We are hoping for CUCET to become a reality. The admission process is anyway going to get delayed till September, hence a central entrance exam will only bring uniformity in the admission process as boards have already adopted different marking schemes for class 12 students this year.”
After the cancellation of the Class 12 board examination by various Central and State boards across the nation, students have been demanding CUCET for admission for a fair admission in the universities. Earlier a proposal was sent to University Grants Commission(UGC), regarding the admission eligibility based on 50-50 weightage given to Class 12 marks and the CUCET score. The registration for merit-based and entrance-based admissions for this year is to start by July 15.

He also added, “The final decision on CUCET is likely to be shared by the government in the next one week or 10 days. While we may begin the admission process in July, the intricacies of admissions such as criteria for cut-off lists, normalisation of class 12 mark, can only be discussed after the board results are declared across the country. If CUCET is not implemented from this year then the university will have to devise different methods for marks normalisation as boards are not following a uniform marking scheme for class 12. We do not want a certain board’s student to have an advantage over others, hence we will make sure that the procedure to be followed are foolproof.”
The test is likely to have two sections: • Section A – an aptitude test of 50 questions on reading comprehension, verbal ability, quantitative reasoning, logical and analytical reasoning, general awareness and ICT • Section B – will have 50 domain-specific questions.
