DUTA writes to UGC; urges “quicker decision” on University exams

Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has written to University Grants Commission (UGC) urging to take a “quicker decision” regarding the university examinations, keeping in consideration the mental and physical wellbeing of the students.

Delhi University on Saturday had issued a notice announcing the postpone of Open Book Exams “for ten days in view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic.” The new datesheet is said to be released on July 3.

The teachers’ body said that the announcement has created a “wave of panic” among the university students. Some students had already made their travel plans according to the datesheet which was announced earlier.

Lately, HRD Minster Ramesh Pokhriyal had asked UGC to “revisit” its examination guidelines and “revise” the academic calendar. DUTA said that it seems the university administration has “chosen to ignore” his remark.

Moreover, students reported that many of the Common Exam Centres are not functional and students who are travelling to these centres at the time of such a pandemic, are putting their lives at risk.
